He was chosen of Joseph’s royal line, crowned with Mary’s kisses
Strange new King of the manger –
lain where shepherds had led their sheep Sleep, little King, now sleep
And the angels appeared on high, with songs – singing “Glory to God forever! Blessing, honor, and power: Yours from now, and shall ever, be”
Sleep, little King, now sleep
Men behold Thy light – gold they’ll bring Wake, O silent night – angels sing
Sleep, little King – sleep, little King, now sleep
Young mother’s lullabies, humbly sung – as sure as babies cry, Christ has come to earth
The only virgin birth
(men) One day all government shall submit – each realm will know His name, yes, and let it ring For now, she whispers: (women) “Sleep, little King – (tenors) sleep, little King – (all) now sleep”
How can such a powerless thing wear the banner of a King? When are men supposed to see all that He is meant to be? Israel’s hope and reckoning, rendered through His suffering How can such a powerless thing wear the banner of a King?
(Instrumental)
Men behold Thy light – gold they’ll bring
Wake, O silent night – angels sing
Sleep little King – (octaves) sleep little King, now sleep
Young mother’s lullabies, humbly sung
